I had the opportunity to visit with Dr. Neil Jones, who is a University Professor at the University of California Los Angeles and Past President of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
For the 10th year I lead the Corporate Advisory Council meeting where the leadership of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand meets with representatives of our industry partners to discuss common goals and aspirations regarding hand and upper limb patient care, research, education and outreach.
We had a very productive dinner the night before where we tackled some of the questions in an informal way and then had the morning meeting till noon looking at some of the major issues that we face regarding healthcare policy and reimbursement in the United States, and access to patient care. Helping to improve the entry of innovations into our practices is always a focus of the discussion. After this meeting and a quick lunch, we had one-on-one sessions that went deep to the afternoon and then I attended the Council dinner that evening.
This work remains ongoing and represents my major focus for the ASSH over the last decade.
The American Society for Surgery of the Hand is the oldest and most prestigious medical society dedicated to the hand and upper extremity. Our mission is to advance the science and practice of hand and upper extremity surgery through education, research and advocacy on behalf of patients and practitioners.
With more than 4,000 members, our Society is growing every year. ASSH works to promote diversity and professionalism and strives for organizational excellence through a partnership between an enthusiastic and engaged membership and staff.
