Diao Participates in East Coast Hand Surgery Presentations

I had the opportunity to participate as a faculty member last week for two separate events. One was a think tank of hand surgeons from around the country to look at the future of hand and upper extremity surgery. This was sponsored by the Biomet Corporation and was held at their facility in Miami, Florida. It turns out that many of the team members were on the original Hand Innovations Team that revolutionized wrist fracture treatment.

I then headed to the Cleveland Clinic for the 14th Annual Cutting Edge presentations of the hand and upper extremity program where twenty lecturers from around the U.S. participated in 2.5 days of current thinking and emerging technologies. We discussed innovative techniques that we could bring to our patients. I also met with the head of the hand biomechanics lab to discuss current research projects and plan collaborative projects in the future. All in all, it was an excellent four days spent promoting and consolidating what we do for patients in the field of hand and upper extremity surgery.

It’s been a year since the COVID-19 epidemic first hit us here in the United States, and of course around the entire world. We mourn the catastrophic loss of life and reflect on how much our future will be changed… at least for a while, and maybe longer!
