Stryker Surgeon Training

Stryker is one of the major "Big 5" orthopedic companies. Stryker provides education and training courses.  They have a philosophy of surgeon education in which didactic lectures and case presentations are offered for the most challenging clinical cases.  They pair these with excellent hands on surgical skills courses that focus on the fundamentals of surgical approaches and principles.

Recently, they offered a course on the Hand and Wrist which I participated in. It was located at the South Florida Learning Center, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.  On Thursday, August 22, I led a competitive analysis of existing products for upper extremity conditions. Six surgeons and six engineers and marketing executives participated in a panel discussion regarding opportunities in the marketplace for improved technology and products for surgeons to use on their patients.

On Friday, August 25th, we did a day-long session of lectures and surgical skills for 35 residents and fellows.  On Saturday, August 26th, we did a day-long session for 25 experienced surgeons and their staff. As always, the camaraderie and fellowship with other surgeons and designers were rewarding.

It’s been a year since the COVID-19 epidemic first hit us here in the United States, and of course around the entire world. We mourn the catastrophic loss of life and reflect on how much our future will be changed… at least for a while, and maybe longer!
