We had the pleasure of sponsoring the 4th Annual Touching Hands today, in conjunction with the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. We performed hand surgery for uninsured and underinsured patients. The San Francisco Surgery Center volunteered the facility and staff nurses, surgical techs, equipment, and personnel. All volunteered their time, as did the physicians and nurses, along with myself. We took care of seven patients who had multiple issues which amounted to 11 problems. The surgeries included wrist arthroscopy, nerve decompression, and removal of benign tumors, among others. There was excellent camaraderie among the patients, the patient's families, the charitable healthcare organizations that sponsored these patients, and all of us.
