I was humbled to be nominated for Volunteer of the Year at the 26th Annual Heart of Marin Awards Luncheon. Myself, Shayne and Luis were joined by hundreds of volunteers, their co-worker’s and families to this extraordinary event. Our office was recognized for delivering care to the uninsured and underinsured in connection with Marin Community Clinics and Operation Access. This service is part of a larger program by the American Society of Surgery of the Hand as part of the “Touching Hands” program. We were one of the 4 centers in the United States 2 years ago to offer this service in 2017, one of eight cities in the United State in 2018, and the hope is we have centers doing volunteer healthcare and surgery in all 50 states in the near future.
I commend all the amazing volunteers and sponsors that give their time and expertise. It was particularly inspiring to hear about the youth volunteers who have done amazing things while still high school students in Marin. Congratulations to all!
