ASSH 69th ANNUAL MEETING

The American Society for Surgery of the Hand held its 69th Annual Meeting in Boston on September 18-20, 2014. The ASSH Annual Meeting educational content includes scientific sessions, symposia, forty-five instructional courses, clinical reviews, industrial workshops, scientific and commercial exhibits, and poster presentations.

Over 2500 enrollees including over 400 international registrants attended this premier educational event for hand and upper extremity surgeons from the orthopedics, plastic, and the general surgery world. Dr Diao gave a keynote address to invite registrants to the 2015 ASSH Annual Meeting scheduled to be held in Seattle Washington in 2015. Dr Diao is the Program Chair for that meeting and will coordinate the content on behalf of ASSH President William Seitz.

Dr Diao, as Chair of the ASSH Commercial Support Committee and Corporate Advisory Council, met with a dozen of the elite commercial sponsor companies that have products and services that address upper extremity, patients, and their conditions.

The meetings were highly productive and helped to develop strategic planning for future projects. These include future meetings, expansion of the digital content platform, and novel ways to deliver surgeon education for improvement on patient care.

Social gatherings and receptions allowed strengthening of old friendships and the creating of new ones. Alumni meetings for the Mass General Hospital Hand Club, the Littler Eaton Glickel Society of Roosevelt Hospital, and the UCSF Alumni were well attended as was the ASSH International reception hosted by the Brazilian Hand Society which was complete with Carnival dances and barbecued meats!

Colleagues who gave special addresses included Peter Carter from Texas, Mike Solomons from South Africa, and ASSH President Scott Kozin on mission work; a new focus for the ASSH and AFSH.
