I had the pleasure and honor of leading the American Society for Surgery of the Hand Corporate Advisory Council meeting on Wednesday, May 25th, and Thursday, May 26th, 2016. Our meeting place was the Ritz-Carlton at Laguna Niguel in Southern California chosen by ASSH President Neil Jones my friend for 30 years, and Chief of Hand Surgery at the University of California Irvine. We had a very eventful series of one-on-one meetings with corporate leaders who are engaged with the American Society for Surgery of the Hand strategically and financially in terms of supporting our programs. We had a lovely dinner to welcome everyone to the event. The following morning from 8:00 – 12:00 we were engaged in discussions regarding our major projects in the areas of education, research, and outreach. We strongly featured expansion of our digital platform the didactic platform Hand-e and now the commercial linkage through the Industry Guide. New publications and new content were described. Our new education initiative, the International Fellowship Program was described in detail by Neil Jones and corporate sponsorship is already helping to make this a reality in the next year. Research priorities were discussed and sorted and new opportunities described. Lastly, our outreach program Touching Hands has a dozen missions scheduled for the next year and we are actively soliciting both participants and sponsorship. All and all it was once again a very effective meeting where industry participants felt they had a unique opportunity to work with our leadership to try to forge a successful future for hand and upper limb surgery, expand the market place and deepen the engagement of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand as the global leader in this area.
